'Brainstorming and Research', September 2020, acrylic on paper.

In my research for my summer project, I decided to brainstorm a variety of ideas, particularly focusing on problems that I am personally interested in solving. My example ranged from small mundane problems to larger environmental problems like pollution and COVID-19.

In my research regarding disposable masks and COVID related plastic pollution, I found that the material that disposable masks are made of 'polypropylene', is both air permeable and water-resistant, making it an ideal surface for painting. As such, I decided I would attempt to reclaim these materials, and in doing so I sowed individual single-use disposable face masks together to create a surface for painting.
