Monolith Research: Stonehenge ​

 

Throughout my work this year, I have been inspired by ideas of monoliths and obelisks. In creating 'Countdown to Planet Plastica' I aim to mimic these outstanding ancient monuments using plastic, to emphasise the dependency on single-use plastics. I was immediately inspired by Stonehenge, particularly the circular nature, as I want the audience to feel enclosed and engulfed in the work, as if there is no escape.

Stonehenge's circular structure is an ideal inspiration source, as the shape would allow for intimacy and disconnection, which is ultimately the aim of my work. Through mimicking an iconic structure using counted plastic, I hope to emphasise the possible future faced by the planet, where there are little resources left except plastic.
